Metzeler ROADTEC Z6 - Mini-review

I've added several hundred miles to my new Metzeler ROADTEC MEZ6 tires (mounted on the '98 Honda CBR1100XX).

Yesterday I rode from home to the Amador County fair, via Volcano and Fiddletown. I had a chance to throw the bike around a bit, as there are some nice road sections on that route.

Balanced feel

The tires provide a balanced, neutral feel. The ride is smooth, 'quiet' (how quiet can a motorcycle be, really?) and very pleasant.

The roadholding quality seems quite good (although I've still got a 1/4" 'chicken strip' at the edge of the tires, at least until I get a chance to 'break in' the remainder of the tire surface). The feel is confidence-inspiring: the bike feels solidly planted and predictable in all situations. Rain grooves have no noticeable effect.

The last MEZ6 rear lasted about 3000 miles, which is a bit on the low side for me. I didn't wait until they were 'slicks' though, so I'm sure I could have added another 500 miles before replacing them.

I'll admit that I am a big fan of the Metzeler sport-touring tires. I've used other brands on my sport tourers, and keep coming back to Metzeler.
