That is one mean machine! I
That is one mean machine! I used to have a 72 Buick GS clone with a 350 and that was fast, but the 70 GS with the 455 could beat my car by 2 seconds in the quarter mile. The Buick 455 had the most torque ever produced by a GM production engine, pair that with 3.42 rear-end and 4-speed tranny and that would run 13s right off the showroom floor! That's pretty impressive considering how much that thing weighed. Imagine the possibilities with cheap gasoline...
'70 GS 455 was a MONSTER!
I had a metallic green '70 455, and I can tell you, that thing was a frickin' monster. Low 14 second quarter mile times all day long, 10MPG, and seriously comfortable at the same time. GM A-Bodies rule... :D
(Crappy drum brakes, though. I don't miss 'em.)
