Laguna Seca AMA/GP 1983
With the Laguna Seca MotoGP race just days away I thought it would be appropriate to post some photos of the track circa 1983. This was one of the most contested years with Freddie Spencer edging out Kenny Roberts by 2 points for the World Championship. The track was very fast and very dangerous. As you can see there was very little room for runoff and if you did crash there were none of the modern safety features.
Fast Freddie
"Fast" Freddie Spencer won the 500 World Championship in 1983 by 2 points over "King" Kenny Roberts. Spencer's talent and combination of dirt and pavement experience were an awesome sight to see.King Kenny on the Charge
Kenny Roberts was an awesome rider and I feel privileged to have seen him race. I'll never forget the first time I saw Kenny wheelie between the bottom of the corkscrew (turn 6B) and turn 7 passing other riders and waving to the fans under the trees. The Train Leaving Turn 3
Before the infield was added Laguna Seca was 9 turns of very narrow high speed racing. Flat out from the hairpin (was taurn 9, now 11) to the climb to the corkscrew. I never had the chance to ride the original configuration but I can tell you it was an awesome experience to drive in a formula racecar.Randy Mamola Riding to Victory
What an awesome display of riding Randy put on for all the fans. Racing against the world champion Spencer and his hero Roberts, Randy Mamola showed racing fans he could race and beat the best in the world. The Corkscrew - Is there a better turn on any other track?
Can any other corner on any other track beat this view? I Don't Think So! Too bad you won't see this view anymore. The Most Famous Corner Ruined
Mazda? SCRAMP?... WTF were they thinking??? I can not believe they moved the bridge from exit turn 9 to block the view of the Corkscrew. I would like to hear the "logic" behind this move.

Great photos! I remember
Great photos! I remember doing a track day at Laguna Seca, I agree totally about the 'pucker factor' coming out of the corkscrew. Basically, I sucked (it was my first track day) and I kept thinking I was going to run off the damn track.
