On the road to Montana
I'm on the road to Montana for a photo shoot. In a minivan, unfortunately. Too much gear, wrong bike for the job.
Leaving Reno on 80 east, we see Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) and sheriff cars everywhere. On a twenty mile stretch outside of sparks, dozens of patrol cars - and along the highway, we see at least seven 'enforcement actions' - people pulled over at the side of the road - in every case, two or three NHP vehicles ("back up"). One incident had a guy with a small rented U-Haul trailer being frisked by NHP.

We got back to Jackson at about 7pm tonight. It was a good ride, a bit cold up at the top of 88 (near the lakes) but warmed up as I dropped to lower elevations. (Stupid me, left my heavy gloves in the motorhome with our 'support crew'.)
I'll be uploading new photos and story items as time permits over the next few days. The photo gallery (which has a few dozen photos at present) can be found here.

A Golden Opportunity
Highway 88 near Woodfords and highways 89 and 4 near Markleeville provide a spectacular combination of dramatic mountain views and fantastic fall foliage. In October, the aspens turn a beautiful color, revealing a surprising collection of wildly-colored landscapes to the lucky traveller.
Travelling east on 88 out of the mountain passes towards 89 and Lake Tahoe, we are delighted to see the hills awash in fiery colors.

Sorensen's resort provides a place to stay if you want to see the area over an extended period. There's a gift shop, 3 bed and breakfast cabins, and 27 housekeeping cabins. Click here to continue...Hot August Nights 2006
My wife and I decided to do an overnight trip up to Hot August Nights in Reno. I'd been to several Hot August Nights events in the past and wanted to see if it was as crazy as ever. And from what I could see, it was.
We didn't see many motorcycles except for a handful of Harleys and metric bikes in various parking lots and the occasional bike jetting by on the highway; it's possible that we missed out on larger collections of motorcycles due to our late arrival.

With the Laguna Seca MotoGP race just days away I thought it would be appropriate to post some photos of the track circa 1983. This was one of the most contested years with Freddie Spencer edging out Kenny Roberts by 2 points for the World Championship. The track was very fast and very dangerous. As you can see there was very little room for runoff and if you did crash there were none of the modern safety features.
