Ride Report - Big Sur Coastline
Highway 1 from Carmel South
One of my favorite sections of Highway 1 is from Carmel going south towards Big Sur. The road is in very good condition and depending on when you ride there can be little traffic. If you are attending the MotoGp races or are in the Salinas/Monterey area this is a great ride.
From Salinas I ride Highway 68 towards Monterey. Just before the entrance to Laguna Seca Raceway you can make a left turn onto Laureles Grade (G20) this will take you on a nice twisty ride over the mountain into Carmel Valley. At the end of Laureles Grade you are at the junction of Carmel Valley Road (G16). Turning right will take you west to Carmel. This route will bypass most of the Monterey/Carmel traffic.
Dramatic views of the Pacific ocean and the coastline
There are many areas where you can stop and admire the dramatic coastline and take pictures.Bixby Bridge
Bixby bridge is one of the most photograped Bridges on the California Coast. It was completed in 1932 and is an enginering marvel and a beautiful bridge.Caves in the cliffs
One of my favorite spots is South of Carmel Highlands where you will see these caves in the cliffs. My trusty CBR954
This large pool and the dramatic and colorful coastline provide a stunning background for my CBR954.
Rugged Cliffs and colorful water
The cliffs and the water provide some interesting photo opportunities.Big Sur
If you are looking for a place to eat I would recommend the Big Sur River Inn. The food is good and the setting is very nice. You can choose the indoor dining however I would suggest sitting on the back patio overlooking the creek.
